Services

Sunday Services

We meet twice on a Sunday at 10:30am and 5:30pm and in between our church services we have Sunday School at 2:00pm.

Because we want the Bible to drive our Church Life together, the focus of our time together will be spent in the preaching and teaching of a Bible passage which usually lasts for up to thirty minutes. Our services also include some time of singing together and we use a mixture of musical styles and songs, new and old.

Everyone is encouraged to ask the speaker questions before they leave.

Lord’s Supper

We usually celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of the month at both our morning and evening services. We welcome people from all kinds of different Christian denominations to join with us in the Lord’s Supper. All we ask is that you are personally trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ and his work of the cross for your salvation, and are in good relationship with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Prayer

If you would like prayer for anything that’s on your mind, or going on in your life, there is someone available to pray for or with you after each service as well as in the weekly Prayer Meeting

Blessing & Thanksgiving Services

The birth or adoption of a child is a cause for great celebration.

We offer a service of thanksgiving and blessing to parents who would like to have a church ceremony to mark the birth of their child and to give thanks for their new life.

In this service, the minister will not baptise the child with water but will pray God’s blessing on the child and the whole family.

This service of thanksgiving gives the opportunity for parents and families, and us as a congregation, to join together in giving thanks for the birth or adoption of a child.

The service starts promptly at 10:30am where guests are joined by members of the church.

One of our Ministers will lead the service with songs and prayers and a short message before blessing the child and the family.

The service lasts about 45 minutes. For more information about or Blessing & Thanksgiving Services please contact Beryl on 07758550079 or berylwakefield@btinternet.com

Weddings

Congratulations!

First – many congratulations on your engagement and forthcoming marriage!

We’ve been privileged to host many weddings at Hetton IM Church over the years as our building is formally registered with the Registrar General.

So, if you’re thinking about getting married at Hetton IM Church you should first arrange to see one of our Minister’s.

Weddings are usually rather complex with lots of things to arrange, so the earlier you get the church sorted out the better. Gill or Shaun will talk things through with you and discuss dates, practicalities, marriage preparation and other arrangements.

Please note that a wedding in church is not only a legal occasion but also a very special spiritual one, and we only offer a Christian wedding service.

Funerals & Bearevement

At Hetton IM Church we are well aware that every family experiences the trauma of bereavement from time to time. We have many years’ experience of supporting people through this most difficult of life’s events. We understand the pain of loss even in the midst of Christian hope. Our ministers are always available to help plan and conduct a funeral or thanksgiving service.

As Christians, we believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ gives hope and a cause for thanksgiving in the face of death. A funeral is used to mark the end of a person’s life here on earth. Family and friends come together to express grief, give thanks for the life lived and commend the person into God’s keeping. It can be a small, quiet ceremony or a large occasion in a packed church.

How do we arrange a funeral?

Most people will use the services of a local funeral director, who will provide advice and organise all the practical arrangements. If you would like a funeral to involve Hetton IM Church and one of our ministers it is a good idea to find out if they are available before booking the time and date of the service. The person who has died may have left details of the sort of funeral that they hoped for. Our ministers will want to support families in keeping to such arrangements as much as possible and in making the service a personal and appropriate occasion. Taking funerals is an important part of the church’s work and our ministers will take time to visit families, offering comfort and support before and after the funeral itself.

Annual Memorial Service

Towards the end of each year we hold an Annual Memorial Service where we gather with many families who have lost a loved on during the past year. The 2019 Annual Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Sunday 24th November, to which anyone is invited to attend.
